How can I get to Western Canada?
Calgary and Vancouver International Airports are served by direct flights from most major cities in the U.S., Europe and Asia.

What should I know about driving in Canada?
Canada has excellent highways with metric signage. U.S. and international licenses are valid. Seat belt use is mandatory. Relax and drive at a comfortable pace and you’ll be rewarded with wildlife viewings and simply stunning scenic vistas. Sample driving times:
- Seattle – Vancouver: 3 hours
- Portland – Vancouver: 5 hours
- Spokane – Banff: 8.0 hours
What currency is used in Canada?
The Canadian dollar (CAD) is used.
ATMs and most businesses accept credit cards and U.S. dollars. At ATMs displaying the Cirrus, Plus or Interac international banking network symbols, visitors can withdraw Canadian funds using their own personal automated banking cards or credit cards. The visitors’ bank sets the exchange rate.
Exchange services are available at banks, hotels, and currency exchange offices.
Banking hours – Monday to Friday, 9.30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., extended hours including weekends at many locations. The Bank of Canada website offers extensive currency conversion and foreign exchange information for travelers, investors and businesses.
What’s the tipping etiquette?
Tip 15–20% in restaurants based on service quality. For luggage handlers or bellhops, $2>5 is customary.
What’s the climate like for golfing?
Western Canada offers a very hospitable climate for golfers – with long warm summer days, and mild spring and fall temperatures. The golfing season in the mountains runs from mid-May to mid-October. Naturally the weather is variable in such dramatic terrain so always pack your rain gear. On the milder West Coast, many courses in British Columbia are open year-round, with great golfing available from February to November.
Our latitude means we enjoy daylight as late as 11pm during June and July. Average summer temperatures are in the high 20°s Celsius (70°s Fahrenheit). Humidity is low, especially in the mountains and it’s pleasant, warm and never extremely hot for summer golf in Western Canada.
What are Canada’s public holidays?
Banks and some businesses may close, but tourist destinations, theaters, and restaurants typically stay open.
Do I need travel or auto insurance?
Travel health insurance is recommended. U.S. drivers should carry a Non-Resident Auto Insurance Card.
What about electricity and metric measurements?
Canada uses 110V (same as the U.S.) and the metric system. Conversion examples:
- 1 kilometer = 0.6 mile
- 80°F = 28°C
Do I need a visa or special documents to visit Canada?
U.S. citizens need a passport. Visitors from other countries may require a visa. Check with the nearest Canadian consulate or embassy for details.

Can I bring my pet?
It’s generally not recommended to travel with pets in Western Canada, however certain hotel chains allow small dogs for a fee. Pets are not allowed to accompany golfers on the golf course.

What is the dress code for golfing or outdoor activities?
For golf, most courses require collared shirts and tailored shorts or pants. Layered clothing is recommended for outdoor activities due to variable weather.

Do I need to book tee times in advance?
It’s highly recommended to book tee times in advance, especially at popular courses, to secure your preferred dates and times.
Are golf carts and clubs available for rent?
Yes, most courses offer golf cart rentals and a wide selection of club rentals, including premium brands. Powered golf carts are included in all our green fee rates. Rental clubs are to be paid directly to the respective proshop.
Are there practice facilities or driving ranges at most courses?
Many courses feature driving ranges, putting greens, and short game areas where you can warm up or practice your skills.
What is the average cost of green fees in Western Canada?
Green fees vary widely, ranging from $80–$160 at smaller courses to $200–$400+ at premium or championship courses.
Do I need to bring my handicap card to play?
While most courses do not require a handicap card, higher-end or private courses may ask for proof of ability. It’s best to check with the course in advance.
Are there caddie services available at courses in Western Canada?
Caddie services are not available at any of the courses we offer.
What should I pack for a golf vacation in Western Canada?
Pack layers, including rain gear, sunscreen, golf gloves, proper shoes, and any personal golf equipment you prefer. Consider a lightweight travel bag for your clubs.
